Bacterial products for land remediation have been around for some years. However, owing to mixed results, this so-called “Magic Dust” has left the industry far from convinced. We set out to change this by developing a new approach that could finally guarantee results using “bioaugmentation.”
On the face of it, the problem with bioaugmentation is quite obvious: unless freshly introduced bacteria spores are afforded the basic conditions needed to sustain their metabolic processes, they will perish almost immediately. Indeed, it is currently estimated that as many as 98% of new microbes die within their first 24 hours. It’s not surprising then that this approach has had more than its fair share of failures.
We knew that if new microbes could be stimulated prior to application, colonies would stand a better chance of survival once they entered the soil. We therefore developed BioBoost not as just another bioaugmentation product, but as a partner and natural compliment to Sea Power 101 - our seaweed-based biostimulant media.
Our customers have been blown away by the extra performance they have seen by using Sea Power 101 and BioBoost side-by-side since we launched this new approach in 2009. Our Synergistic System, in addressing the long-standing problem of survival rates, now ensures that contractors can treat augmentation as a practical and reliable approach to bioremediation. We now recommend this system for particularly demanding projects, such as those involving tight deadlines or where particularly stubborn hydrocarbons are present within the soil.

In the picture below, the left-hand side of the biopile was treated four days before that on the right-hand side. The change in colour illustrates that the hydrocarbons within the soil have become emulsified by our seaweed extract and are beginning to be biodegraded.
